The Moroccan Society for Telemedicine and eHealth (MSfTeH) was founded on July 2011 by members from various fields: Medical Doctors (MDs), Pharmacists, Engineers, Biologists, Bioinformaticians, Computer Scientists, lawyers, and from different cities: Nador, Oujda, Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, and Fes. The MSfTeH seeks to improve health outcomes nationwide, by encouraging the adoption and implementation of innovative solutions for healthcare that involve Telemedicine and eHealth to meet the unique and increasing demands of citizens. Presently, our members’ running projects and interests include implementation of Open Source in Medical Information Systems, establishing medical images databases, managing electronic health records, to cite some. In addition, our MD members are strongly interested in acquiring experience in Telemedicine and eHealth and are willing to implement these technologies in their daily practices.
Our special interests and goals include contributing in building local capacities in the field of telemedicine and ehealth including Teaching, Research and Services, assist the Moroccan governmental agenda in the field of Telemedicine and eHealth in its effort for building a national roadmap for the coming years and to define priorities in term of policy and applications, conduct nationwide studies to determine actual needs of the country in term of infrastructures, human and financial resources. Human resources, applications and infrastructures are areas of critical interest to our organization. We sensitize partners including from academia, health care professionals (HCPs) and private actors in all concerned fields including biomedical, medical, pharmaceutical, informatics, telecommunication, information, economical, social, and law sciences and activities and provide assistance to improve implementation of Telemedicine and eHealth technologies in health care services and we work to convince HCPs and decision makers of the importance of these strategies in improving quality and efficiency of health care nationwide,
There have been pilot Telemedicine and eHealth projects in the country and members are working to advance and support these recent and small scale running programs, replicate some throughout the country, with a particular focus on disadvantaged people who do not have access to specialists health care, especially in the rural areas, while involving the private sector in the process of harmonization of eHealth standards and interoperability, and establishing Guidelines and Principles in the implementation of Telemedicine and eHealth in the country, as well as to promote remote learning in Morocco and contribute to the development of the Telemedicine and eHealth. The MSfTeH also creates strategic partnerships with national governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that will support the use of Telemedicine and the implementation of eHealth technology in all health sectors concerned.
Prospected Telemedical projects will assist in the inception and the establishment of our organization and will further offer support to its activities. These projects will also help our local society to expand the use of Telemedicine and eHealth in Morocco, facilitate building close cooperation and strengthening links with regional bodies including other North African, and Mediterranean sister organizations to exchange experience and share vision, and accelerate in setting up an educational and training program including workshops, university courses and full master programs and expand these educational projects throughout the countries, encourage our MDs and engineers to get full and continuing training in Telemedicine and eHealth. Granting our organization with access to international funds and interaction with experts is crucial to advance our educational and training agenda for health professionals working or interested in working or adopting Telemedicine and eHealth in their daily practices.
